After social workers try to separate orphan Billy Kimberly from his dog Shep, boy and dog head west, teaming up en route with a Mexican immigrant. When an Arizona sheriff is wounded by robbers, and the Mexican is wrongly accused of the crime, Billy and Shep must bring the true culprits to justice.
